A Bet Against Internet Gambling Essays - Gambling, Online Gambling
A Bet Against Internet Gambling 07 February 2001 A Bet against Internet Gambling I love gambling. Who doesnt? The minute you walk into a casino you are overwhelmed by exciting noises, flashing lights and people having a good time. There is so much excitement it isnt hard to become addicted, especially after your first big win. The rush you get from winning is something that is hard to parallel. Trust me I know. I almost became addicted. I realized the trouble I was heading for before it was too late. I was a lucky one. Many people arent as lucky. It is especially easy for people who live very close to a casino to get addicted because it is so easily accessible. Now imagine if everyone who had a computer had 600+ casinos right in their own living room. It is like everyone having access to crack cocaine all the time. Not quite as addictive, but you get the idea. That is why I am for Internet gambling prohibition. Some people might say that prohibition isnt fair, that there are people who can handle the responsibility. Why should everyone suffer because some people cant handle it? I would tell them that in making a decision like whether or not Internet gambling prohibition should be enforced the benefits should outweigh the risks. In this case they definitely do. Internet gambling is easy to get hooked on. There are advertisements for casinos at almost all of the major search engines and home pages (ex: yahoo, metacrawler, excite etc.). Many of these advertisements claim that they have free gambling or give away free money. For example one casino will give you $125.00 for a $50.00 deposit. Do you think they would really give you that money if they werent confident that you would get hooked and spend it all there or if they thought that they wouldnt get it all back? Once they have lured you to their websites it is easy for them to get your money. It seems a lot easier to spend virtual casino tokens purchased with a credit card than it is to spend your actual hard earned cash at a real casino. Another obvious problem with having online casinos is that children have easy access to them. There is no way to check ID. Anyone with a credit card number can play. Parents of children who gamble online are legally responsible for the debt that their children accumulate. It is especially easy if the parents have already been to that particular casino and set up an account. All the child would need is a password and many computer operating systems have the option of saving passwords and filling them in for the user. Young people are especially vulnerable to Internet gambling. In virtually all studies of the rates of gambling problems at various ages, high school and college-aged individuals show the highest problem rates, said an advisory on Internet gambling and addiction issued by the American Psychiatric Association (Gugliotta 1). Some people believe that online casinos are good for the local economy because they provide jobs and tax revenue for a community. This may be true but the community isnt local. Most online casinos are located overseas to avoid taxes and US regulations. Another reason for prohibition is that there is no way to regulate online overseas casinos. Real casinos in the United States are strictly monitored for fairness and must pay out certain a certain percentage. A large percentage of online casinos are not physically located in the U.S. (de Bendern 1). Even if their government monitored these casinos would we want another country dictating what is fair for our gamblers? Online casinos arent the only way of gambling online. There are also cyber bookies for sports betting and so-called free lotteries. National sports leagues are against online betting for two good reasons. When people are putting money down on games, it does enhance the possibility of actual corruption, says David Remes, an attorney for the NFL. It also sends a terrible message to young people and children about what these competitions are about. The free lotteries arent quite as harmful as the other forms of online gambling but they definitely arent free. They dont cost

Jimmie Lee Jackson essays
Jimmie Lee Jackson essays In 1951 a movement in the south which was an attempt to help civil rights and led to a serious of non-violent events. These events then later were disasters in black history and caused hundreds of African Americans to suffer. My story starts along that time line in which I had the devastation to watch my best friend fall to the people, the White community. I am a white male and I am proud of who I am and who I came to be. Jimmie Lee Jackson was born in 1938 the same year I was. We grew up as neighbors and I had known him very well all my life. An innocent young man who always wanted to look out for others black or white. His salary was also struck at $700.00 a year, and could not attend school with me for he was denied. The movement of civil rights was led by a man named Martin Luther King Jr. His non-violent approach towards helping blacks was hoped to gain a goal of what we know now as the salad bowl theory. Jackson was the youngest deacon at his church. As far as I know he was farming and logging for work. The movement began with marches and forceful action by the members of the Klan and police. American began to realize the pain of the black community. Around 9:30 pm of February 18, more then 200 marches began walking. The marchers were then asked to stop the revolt and leave. The lights in the street went out and caused total chaos. The troopers were beating men left and right, sometimes hitting the woman even. Jimmie and his family went inside a caf for cover, but his dad was hit with a club and Jimmie tried to take him to the hospital but they couldnt get out. A trooper then struck his mother of the head and Jimmie retaliated by hitting the trooper. The other troopers began beating him senseless repeatedly. A man pulled out his gun and murdered my best friend. All Jimmie was doing was marching for his ...

Songs of Innocence and Experience Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words
Songs of Innocence and Experience - Essay Example producing the twenty seven plates of his poems Songs of Innocence and Experience dated 1789, the artist-poet developed the laborious method of etching both poem and design in relief on a copper plate. This initiated his now famous series of Illuminated Books (Blake: 11). William Blakeââ¬â¢s volume of poetry titled Songs of Innocence and Experience reflects his belief that innocence and experience were two diverging states of the human soul, and that true innocence was impossible without experience. Some of the Songs of Innocence which mostly pertain to children, have an equivalent in the contrasting Songs of Experience (IntArch, 2008). The poems with illustrations are a unique feature of Blakeââ¬â¢s works from 1788, including the Songs of Innocence and Experience. The illustrations help readers to understand the poems, while exhibiting the works in their original forms. The designs intensify and raise the meaning of the written word to greater heights. The poet felt impelled to produce his poems in this form partly because of his ââ¬Å"cast of mind, whereby the life of the imagination was more real to him than the material worldâ⬠(Blake: 11). His lyrical poems were valuable on their own, but he did not wish that they should be read in plain written form. For words and symbols to re-inforce each other, Blake identified ideas which could be translated into visual images. The poet Blake used his work to express his principles regarding various aspects of human life, speaking out from within his mind and heart. Rising above the ordinary world of common experience, the poems formed an embodiment of the imaginative vision of the poet. His poems reflect the fact that he was an independent and rebellious thinker, who intensely disliked pretension and falsity in others (Blake: 11). The Songs of Innocence were products of a mind in a state of chaste goodness, the poems showed an imagination that was unspoiled by worldliness. William Blakeââ¬â¢s increasing awareness of the

Is China going to be the next major city caused the Global warming Essay
Is China going to be the next major city caused the Global warming - Essay Example Chinaââ¬â¢s economic development has been inevitably dependent on the consumption of coal for energy. Energy consumption and economic development, and in turn environmental issues in China have been interrelated. Coal is the main source of energy and burning of coal leads to emission of green house gases. This is what has lead to the negative effects of Chinaââ¬â¢s economic development on global warming. China has surpassed USA as the worldââ¬â¢s leading emitter of green house gases (Landsberg, 2011). Globally, there has been a constant increase in the demand for energy. So is the case with China. As the population of China has been increasing so is its demand for energy. Also the economic growth is fuelled by this increase in the demand for energy. Economic growth is driven by industrialization and this leads to higher energy consumption. In china, the industrialization process is relatively young and is expected to grow. This means that the already high energy intensity in China will still increase. Therefore, as the economic growth curve goes upwards so does the energy demand and in turn energy consumption. As mentioned above, China with its huge population consumes enormous energy. This enormous energy consumption is the primary reason behind Chinaââ¬â¢s negative impact on global warming. ... is the emission green house gases). According to Zhang Zhongxiang, Chinaââ¬â¢s GDP will go down by 2% if there is a decrease of 10-20% in the green house gases emission. Also there will be a 1.29% increase in the emission of the green house gases when there is a 51% increase in the per capita income (Yu, 2008). This establishes the theory that Chinaââ¬â¢s economic development has lead to an enormous increase in the emission of green house gases and in turn leading to global warming. Energy demand elasticity is an important factor in analyzing the relation between energy consumption or demand and the economic development. Energy demand elasticity is the ratio of energy demand growth to GDP growth. From 1978 to 2000, Chinaââ¬â¢s energy demand elasticity was less than .5. But from 2001 to 2006 it rose to 1.5. This shows how the rapid economic development is associated with higher energy consumption. Another important evidence of the relationship between Chinaââ¬â¢s economic development and global warming is the fact that the green house gas emissions had gone up 18 times in 1989 when compared to the 1952 emissions and the 2010 emissions is more than double the emissions in 1996. Chinaââ¬â¢s economic development has been pointing upward since the reforms in 1970. Hence, there is a clear connection between economic development and global warming (gas emissions) (Hackett, 1998). Netherlands Environment Assessment Agencyââ¬â¢s 2006 report found out that China was now the major contributor to the global greenhouse gas emissions. It has now overtaken USA and is the worldââ¬â¢s leading emitter of green house gases with a margin of 8%. 2007 saw a 2.6% growth in the global emissions and China was responsible for

The Application of Cognitive Learning Theory in Learning How to Read Essay
The Application of Cognitive Learning Theory in Learning How to Read and Use Maps - Essay Example The objective of the essay is to examine the potentials of one of the learning theories aforementioned, the cognitive learning theory, in identifying and explaining the components and mechanisms of learning a particular task. For this essay, learning how to read and use a map will be explored by applying the cognitivist approach. Primarily, the essay will provide a brief overview of the task of learning how to read and use a map and its importance in the discipline of geography. Afterward, the types of knowledge required to acquire or learn the particular skill will be discussed, and then the cognitive learning theory, as it applies to the learning task of reading and using a map, will be examined. Specifically, Piagetââ¬â¢s and the neo-Vygotskianââ¬â¢s theories will be employed in explaining the chosen learning task. And lastly, the essay will conclude the discussion by identifying the strengths and weaknesses of the cognitive learning theory, relative to other learning theori es, in explaining the task of learning how to read and use a map. The discipline of geography explores the relationship between human beings and the earth and particularly takes into account the environment, location, and space. In studying locations and geographical subjects, geographers illustrate and identify the mechanisms and structures they observe in their physical environment. Hence study of spatial structures and the acquisition of locational knowledge shape distinguishing and core components of the field, with various kinds of maps being an essential tool in this practice (Palmer & Birch, 2004).

Eating Out: A Common Phenomenon Among Malaysians
Eating Out: A Common Phenomenon Among Malaysians Eating out is a common phenomenon among Malaysians. However, the selection of a restaurant is dependent on the restaurant variety, the consumer personality and the consumption context. With the increase in discretionary income and change in lifestyle, dining out has become a common experience among university students. People begin to have more experiences in dining that lead to customer expect more from the restaurants and are more difficult to satisfy. Restaurant consumption lifestyle is very related to food lifestyle. Kesic and Piri Rajh (1993) stated that food lifestyle can be desribed through behaviour of consumer as a function of individual characteristics and this can be create through the social interaction of psychological and also the past experience of consumer. Dine out is known as consumption of food and drink eaten outside the home which is not obtained from the households stocks. Dine out is easily accesible, as in expensive hawker centers, coffee shops, air-conditioned food courts and fast-food restaurants whereas consumers have the ability to choose types of food and price (Dittmer,2002) Restaurant consumption lifestyle among students depends on convenience of food and also restaurant itself, traditionality of food that they serve, concerning about health and nutrition, environment or atmosphere at the restaurant, the variety of menu that restaurants provided and also the price of food. Food-related lifestyle has five components fisrt is higher-order attributes of food products, second is consequences of using food product, third is shopping script, forth is meal preparation scripts and fifth is usage situations. The striking social, economic transformation, the increases in the types, the absolute number of retail venues and the greater variety of food products can influence the consumer purchasing behavior in restaurant consumption lifestyle. In the aspect of restaurant consumption lifestyle, the frequency that they dining outside of the home can give an idea what make them to dine out, with whom they usually go to dine out, where the location that they prefer and why they choose that place. Dine out is not an option for those who are only has a limited time, it is also has become the favorable choice for those who like to obtain new eating environmnet, changing of menu, and for people who want to spend time with friend, colleagues or family. In order to fulfill the needs, peoples will patronize foodservice establishment. People have certain evaluative foodservice establishment criteria in their mind, such as the quality of the food and service provided ambience and the price. 1.2 Problem Statement Restaurant consumption lifestyle is very general if we want to discuss among all types of consumers. However, in this research will try to understand about the restaurant consumption lifestyle between two major ethnic groups of university students. This research will come out what the motivation purchasing among two races in restaurant selection criteria. Besides that, this research will find out what type of trend nowadays consumers preferred to go to the restaurant, for example what the restaurant selection criteria of restaurant consumers more preferred, why they choose that restaurant, when usually they go there, what they expect when they go to the restaurant and with whom they usually go there. These studies have addressed issues such as the relationship between consumer behaviour, the demand pattern of restaurant consumption lifestyle and factors influencing consumer purchasing behavior. All of these issues are related with restaurant consumption lifestyle between two races of students because these issues are more to social science and behavior of consumers. 1.3 Objectives The objectives of this study are: To investigate the restaurant consumption lifestyle between two ethnic groups of university students. To examine the motivation purchasing in consuming their meal at restaurant. To determine the difference of restaurant selection criteria in normal and special dining out occasion. 1.4 Research Questions Specifically two basic research questions underline this study: Does the consumer behavior influence in the restaurant consumption lifestyle? Is it have differences between two ethnics group of university students in restaurant consumption lifestyle? What the motivation purchasing in restaurant consumption lifestyle between Malay and Chinese students? 1.5 Significance of the Study This paper consists of information on consumers consumption pattern and factors that influence consumers purchasing decision. Indirectly, can understand why university student select one restaurant over the other, the marketer can use marketing strategy effectively to gain market and profit. Besides that, managers also can understand the critical factors that influence customers behavior, loyalty and satisfaction in the food service industry and help them to improve in critical part or areas. All the factors that effect consumers eating out in food service establishment may also directly affect the profitability of the food service operations. Therefore, this study is important to investigate the factors contributing to overall customers satisfaction and repurchase behavior. A food service manager needs to understand this relationship in order to enhance their customers need and satisfaction. CHAPTER 2 LITERATURE REVIEW 2.1 Eating Out In this study, restaurant consumption lifestyle related with the contemporary patterns and the symbolic association of eating out and also related with patterns to social and demographic characteristics of households. Eating out has important implications for comprehensive understanding of nations diet. Eating out become famous trend in many peoples lives now (Koo et al, 1999). Eating out is familiar among single-parent household and also career woman (Elmont, 1995). According to Finkelstein (1989), eating out can give the leisure motive of what they seeing and being seen in public also it can give the entertained by others. Britain showed that consumers increasingly consume their food outside the home (Driver, 1983). As a proportion of food expanding, eating away from home has been increasing since 1950s. Food and its consumption can examine at several different levels and these will depend for ones purpose, whereas attention needs to focus of the following nutrients, ingredients, dishes, meals and cuisine. Eating out has both practical and symbolic significance. People eating out because sometimes out of their necessity and sometimes they eating out because of for pleasure. British Family Expenditure Survey had suggested that people eating out depends on their modes and could be expressed through food consumption (Warde Tomlinson, 1995). The recent official data in UK stated that difference in the social group will give the results difference in the frequency of eating out. The income, age, gender, region, class and household composition will influence consumer eating out. The major leisure motive of eating out can based on Mills belief which is relates to the psychological needs of human being (Mill, 2001). Eating out more than to preventing from suffering because of not enough food. In this research, results can support that people truly enjoy eating when psychologically as a part of leisure motive. In addition, the another aspect of motivation on what causes of behavior, Herzbergs two-factor theory such as hygiene factors and motivation can be apply in finding the results. Lack of concern about hygiene factors can cause of customer dissatisfaction. Eating out had its role in modern consumption (Warde and Martens (1998) and eating out also had its significant because eating out can increase the penetration of commodification and consumer culture in everyday life. Riley (1994) stated that in Britain there were no cultural and psychological factors because consumers tend to evaluate their meal experience at the restaurant they went to. Hygiene factor direct specialist to basic consumption on inexpensive food whereas, motivator give signal for self-identity will act to motivate the customer. People whos have different meal options for different motive will produce the relationship between different types of dining experiences. This is can emphasize that meal can influence the consumers choice of a restaurant meal (June and Smith, 1087). The frequency of eating out may vary, every age group, culture group, social class, and geographical community makes eating out an important from recreation. Eating out on a large scale is an interesting phenomenon of our changing society. Specifically, eating out is defined as patronize to any foodservice establishment by respondents of this study. In this modern society, people eating out for variety of reason, which included avoiding from boredom, to socialize, to have different type of food, taste and convenience ( Tom Powers. 2002). Lewis (1981) considered five factor for eating out which are food quality, menu variety, price, atmosphere and convenience factors. On the other hand, Jones (1996) identified six basic reasons as to why people eating out which are convenience, variety, labor, status, culture or tradition and impulse. Convenience This factor includes those people who are away from some reason, who are physically unable to return at home during normal time and out it conjunction with some other leisure activity. Variety Variety of food is an important factor to attract consumer to one food premise. People, who live in circumstances where the meal experiences are limited, such as in the hawkers stall, may choose to eat out for this reason. Labor The desire to have someone else to prepare food, cook, serve and wash up a meal most certainly influences some peoples decision to dine-out. Status Both for personal and business reasons people may choose to impress their guess by taking them out to a fashionable and expensive restaurant. Culture Eating can be described as a part of our culture heritage and a manifestation of kinship. For example, in Malaysia, celebration of special events such as anniversaries and birthday are often associated with eating out. Impulse This is rather like saying that sometimes people have to no particular reason for eating out, they do so on the spur of movement. However, impulse buying is very significant and that it contributes to sales in the food service industry. 2.2 A Theory of Motivation Consumption Values This theory will discuss about consumption values, explaining why consumer choose to buy or not to buy a specific product. Also discuss why consumers choose one product type over another and why consumers choose one brand over another. This theory consists of five consumption values that can influence consumer choice behavior. The five consumption values are functional value, social value, emotional value, epistemic value, and conditional value. In making a decision, any or all of the consumption values can influence of that. 2.2.1 Functional Value Functional value is defined as alternatives capacity for functional, profitable, or physical performance. An alternative receive the functional value through the utilitarian or profitable and also physical attitudes. Functional value can measured the profile of choice attributes. Generally, functional value is assumed to be the main driver of consumer choice. This assumption comes from Marshall (1890) and Stigler (1950), that strictly expressed in terms of rational economic man. Reliability, durability and price are characteristics that derived from alternatives functional value. For example, the decision to purchase food in the fine dining restaurant must based on their income and ability to buy it. 2.2.2 Social Value Social value is an alternatives association with one or more specific social groups and through positively and negatively stereotyped demographic, socioeconomic, and cultural- ethnic groups. The choice imagery can be measured in profile of social value. The choices involved tangible of highly products and also for goods or service need to be shared with others are often lead by social value. For example, consumer choose to eat at fine dining may be chosen more for social image than for their necessity. Hyman (1942) research about reference groups said that individual behavior is strongly can influence by their group membership. Rogers (1962) and Robertson (1967) also suggested that interpersonal communication and information dissemination can influence in consumer choice. 2.2.3 Emotional Value Emotional value is perceived from an alternatives capacity to arouse feelings or affective states. An alternatives get the emotional value when specific feelings continue those feelings. The feeling which associated with the alternative can be measured in profile of emotional value. Normally, goods and service are correlated with emotional responses and aesthetic alternatives. More tangible products have emotional value for example, some foods can rise the feeling of comfort through their correlated with childhood experiences. According to Dichter (1947) , carried out in motivation research that consumer choice may be lead by noncognitive and unconscious motives. A good and interesting of advertising and decoration of environment in marketing and promotion can enhance the emotional responses to marketed products (Martineau, 1958; Zajonc, 1968; Kotler, 1974; Holbrook, 1983; Park and Young, 1986). 2.2.4 Epistemic Value Epistemic value is an alternatives to enhance the curiosity, provide novelty, and satisfy a desire for knowledge. Epistemic value can get from questionnaire items referring to curiosity, novelty, and knowledge. Epistemic value usually provide the overall new experiences and the alternative can be chosen because consumer is already bored or satisfied with their current products or brand for example they want to try new type of coffee brand and they curious in visiting a new restaurant or they have desire to learn in experiencing another culture. According to (Katz and Lazarsfeld, 1955; Howard and Sheth, 1969; Hansen, 1972; Hirschman, 1980), concept of epistemic value has been influenced by theory of exploratory, novelty seeking, and variety of motives that suggested activating the product search, trial, and switching the behaviors. 2.2.5 Conditional Value Conditional value is a result by an alternative of the specific situation facing the choice maker. Conditional value presence of antecedent physical or social contingencies that can enhance its functional or social value. The choice contingencies are measuring profile of conditional value. The alternatives usually depend on the situation for example, some products of food only have when seasonal value or some of food only have once in a lifetime events. Many products of food have not more obvious conditional association. Hull (1963) and Howard (1969) recognized the importance of learning will take place a result of experience with a given situation. 2.3 Restaurant Attributes Customers have their own reason to want to return to any restaurant. They are constantly seeking quality, value and desirable environment away from the pressures of daily life. Offering good food and good service is not enough to attract and retain customers. To gain a competitive advantage, restaurants need to offer good value in a favorable ambience. According to Autys study (1992), there are ten factors influencing restaurant selection decision which are food type, food quality, and value for money, image and atmosphere, location, speed of service, recommend, new experience, operating hour and facilities for children. However, image and atmosphere were found to be the final choice between restaurants which were similar, and food quality and food type were the most important factor of restaurant selection. 2.3.1 Food Quality Quality of food which contain the fresh ingredients has already been rated as the most important reason why customers return to the restaurant (Brumback, 1998). Technology plays an important function to maintain the quality of food. It means computer chips in refrigerators or fryers or ice-makers need to always maintain the temperature to avoid from any waste of foods. 2.3.2 Price The price is to paid for a service is known as the level of quality to be demanded (Davis and Vollman,1990). Therefore, dining out becomes an integral part of consumers lifestyle, experienced consumers due to their expectations with regard to quality, while seeking a better value for their budget (Cullen,1994). 2.3.3 Environment Ambience may give restaurants competitive edge and restaurants need to update their dà ©cor and concepts if they want to attract more customers and compete with others successfully. Belman said that: Today, the most important thing is design and concept. The owner of restaurant need to invest money to create a good of decoration. It can be a good enjoyable and a fun dinner for social able people. 2.3.4 Location Location plays the main important factor in consumer decision making. It is a critical location aspect of marketing strategy. As Hughes (1996) said that: Good location allow ready access, can attract large numbers of consumers and significantly alter consumer purchasing patterns. As restaurant with very similar food offerings proliferate, even slight differences in location decision represent long-term financial commitments and changing poor locations can be difficult and costly. In a study by Bitner (1992) also found that convenience location and low prices are the top-ranked determinants of patronage. 2.3.5 Service Quality Nowadays, customers have also been concerned about the quality of service. Service quality is viewed as an antecedent to satisfaction. Since the customers interaction with the service provider and the service-producing process have a significant impact on the customers perception of service quality and subsequently influence customers satisfaction, marketing concept, such as customer satisfaction should be incorporated into the managements operational decision making process. 2.4 Factor Affect Restaurant Attributes Consideration The importance of the restaurant attributes according to three main factors which are restaurant types, dining out occasion and occupation, age and income. 2.4.1 Restaurant Types According to Lewis (1981), importance of restaurant attributes varied according to the four types of restaurant, which are categorized as fine dining, family, theme and convenience. Fine dining restaurant are friendliness of waiting staff, quality of food and environment. While family restaurant has top four choice variables are location, cleanliness, cost of food and speed of service. The theme restaurants are ambience factors, prestige, quality of food and location. 2.4.2 Dining Out Occasion Restaurant chosen according to dining out occasion which are categorized as a celebration for instance birthday, a special occasion and business meal. The top three determinants variables for celebration occasion are quality of food, type of food and menu item variety. Whereas for special occasion are cleanliness, service and type of food. On the other hand, for business meal are quality of food, prestige and ambience factors (Kivela, 1997). 2.4.3 Occupation, Age and Income Kivela (1997) has suggested that the determinant choice variables also changes according to occupation, age, and income segments. Financial people make their final restaurant choice on the basis of cost of food because of limited budget, location due to convenience, speed of service and quality of food. 2.4 Consumer Behavior in Food Service Industry Consumers have potentially to deals with all ways people that may act in their role according to study about the consumer behavior ( Schiffman and Kanuk, 1991). In practice of consumer behavior there are more tends to focus upon behavior that related to searching, buying, used the products and also services. Normally, consumer will be assumed as groups and they will be identified through geo-demographic noticeable quality and they also will take as true to have common attitudes. Food service literature consist example of segmentation surveys for example demand for different types of restaurant to different socio-economic segments. It shows that different of demographic and income will give the effect less of demand in consuming of food compared with population density of metropolitan areas. In this study the purchase behavior is related to the act of consumers towards restaurant consumption lifestyle and according to Blackwell (1998), consumer behavior in food service industry always related with how people buy, when they buy, what they buy and why they buy. He also stated that consumer behavior in food service is a subcategory of marketing that combines all the elements from psychology, sociology, socio-psychology, anthropology and economics. However, Gordon (1980) was used the behavioral sciences specifically for social psychology and sociology to understand more what customers wants and needs. He mentioned that through consumers psychological backgrounds can investigate the consumers in order to establish the extent to which factors like attitudes, motives and personality traits affect buying behavior. Whereas, social can influence such as class, status and also family. These were contributed to the understanding of consumer decision making. Mattila et al. (2002) had mentioned that the purchasing of food is a complex phenomenon. This is because the food must be available when consumer wants it, always at an affordable price and quality of food is in acceptable level. All of these will arrange consumer to select the right kinds of restaurant in order to eat their food for overall well being as well as to meet nutritional requirement. Food service industry has characteristics in an apart of the service sector which is in financial and professional services. However, Campbell-Smith (1967), it is much related with food choice and quality but at the same time food service offer meal experience to which many factors. Some of the restaurants characteristic in finding the consumers are choice and quality of food and drink, the price or value, service, atmosphere, location and convenience. (Auty, 1992; Gregoire et al (1995). However, Pettijohn et al. (1997) found the three most important for consumer in selecting the restaurant are quality, cleanliness and value. Whereas, the atmosphere in the restaurant and also the variety of menu which offered in the restaurant were not relatively important. Many studies showed that quality of food was very importance and consumers just see the service as several factors that influenced in quality of restaurant offered. According to Kara et al. (1995), demographic of consumer will give the different expectations of the type of food served, location of restaurants and also the cost of the food they spent. Not only the attribute values concerned with consumer satisfaction, but the wide value also can concerned in consumer satisfaction for instance, the choice making in the individual at the time they purchase is very significant point that can affect in restaurant consumers satisfaction. CHAPTER 3 METHODOLOGY 3.1 Introduction This research used the qualitative method which is individual interview. The information obtained from this research is beneficial to food service industry to understand what the consumers expect from them and can help food service industry to improve the satisfaction among consumers. In order to do so, methodology and procedure were designed to ensure high quality and standard of the study in obtaining reliable information. This study will include the location of the study, sampling procedure, data collection procedure, and research instrument and data analysis. 3.2 Location of the study This research need to compare the restaurant consumption lifestyle between student and working people, so the interview was conducted fully in Universiti Putra Malaysia. This place was used because there is a lot of Malay and Chinese students thus, reliable information can be obtained among the respondents. 3.3 Sampling Design The sampling method used in this study wwas convenience sampling. This sampling method is selected because it is convenience and relatively quick. The respondent will easy to get to do the interviewing. In this study, a total of respondents are 30. 3.4 Research Instrument In this study, the interview question was unstructured question and the answer will depends on the respondents. However, in this research there is still have question for the respondents. Respondents were asking about: Where and what kind of place or restaurant they eat most often. What type of food they eat often and why they choose that type. Respondents need to describe the food due to taste, colour and appearance. In what way the food is convenience for them. What the purpose or motivation factor they eating out? If they have special dish to eat, when they will go out, what they want to eat and why they want eat it. Did they will go only restaurant that sell of the food for example they will go Italian Restaurant or Pizza Hut if they want to eat Italy food. In one week, how many times they eating at the restaurant? What the criteria they will choose if they eating at the restaurant? Why? Price Quality Convenience Health 3.5 Data Analysis This research was analyzed through interview content. The data from interview need to transcribe carefully and then starting to analyze each of the respondent interview. The first mass use camera became available at the turn of the 20th century and can be traced back to the year 1900 and during the 20th century the pace of technology development in cameras and photography continued at an accelerated pace much like many other key technology developments, just like how a digital camera evolved into a DSLR. My question now is if you are willing to buy a camera, should you buy a DSLR or a Digital Camera? This is a question that you need to answer for yourself and this is why I am writing this essay, for you to decide. Let us now start with their picture quality, followed by their over-all performance, and finally their major differences. In DSLRs, one cannot always preview how a picture will be exposed; instead, metering and experience must be relied upon, unlike in digital cameras where in megapixel rating is the main thing to consider when determining a cameras quality. Digital cameras generally have small image sensors which mean that the quality that they produce is generally lower. This is slowly changing in some digital cameras but in comparison to DSLRs they still have a long way to go. Its worth saying however that if youre not planning on using your images for major enlargements or in professional applications that the quality of digital cameras can be more than enough for the average user, although based on the survey conducted a lot of people would rather prefer a DSLR than a digital camera regardless of their skills in photography. When it comes to over-all performance, a DSLR camera has a feature set that well suits both amateurs and more experienced photographers alike. Fast performance, incredibly detailed images, and a solid live view implementation making DSLRs an excellent choice for more experienced photographers. While DSLR cameras are perfect for professional photographers digital cameras on the other hand offers great ease of use for beginners for it packs long zooms, is compact and has a stylish body, and it is an excellent all around camera thats idea for travel and general purpose photography. Digital cameras are remarkably easy to use and produce great results when set to intelligent auto mode, but even though digital cameras seem to be easier, a majority of the people still prefers a DSLR. One of the major differences between a DSLR and a digital camera is what prevents people from buying a DSLR, its price. Even though DSLR prices have come down each and every year, they are still significantly more expensive than digital cameras considering that you might want to upgrade your lens or you may wish to add more lenses later and that this adds to the cost of a DSLR, but 19 out of 30 people still think that the DSLR is more cost efficient. Zoom is also one major difference, since all DSLR lenses can be removed from the camera body, the zoom mechanism are entirely manual. To change the view you have to twist a ring on the lens. This manual zoom actually results in a faster zoom. You dont have to wait for the motors to move the lens and out unlike that of the digital camera, you can just twist the zoom ring as fast or as slow as you like. You can clearly see the difference between a DSLR and a digital camera when it comes to size and weight because DSLRs are heavy and sizab le when you add a lens or two to your bag kit, you can end up with quite the load! Unlike in a digital camera, you are simply able to slip the camera in a pocket to the point of not even knowing youve got them with you! The strength of the conducted survey is that since a majority of the few people who answered the survey chose the DSLR as their best choice, it is possible that majority of the people will also choose DSLR as their choice since DSLRs are very popular to beginners and pros alike. The weakness of the survey on the other hand is that only a few people were able to answer it so we cannot fully investigate what the people really think about DSLRs and digital cameras. We cannot say that the DSLR is the best choice just because 30 people said so. Although the obvious choice for most is the DSLR but it is still best to ask individually rather than assuming that the DSLR is the best choice. If you want a portable camera that takes good enough pictures that youll mainly use for small prints, for uploading pictures on facebook, and one that youll mainly shoot in auto mode, Ill probably recommend a digital camera, but if youre after the image quality and youre desire is to use the manual settings, then I highly recommend a DSLR. I also recommend people to buy a digital camera first rather than jumping into a DSLR without even knowing the basic of taking pictures.

I Lost the Chance :: Personal Narrative, Autobiographical Essay
I Lost the Chance My father and I are made from much the same mold. As my brother resembles my mom, I resemble my father. I inherited his enjoyment for puzzles, words and wit. I share much of his eclectic musical tastes. As I grow older, I see more and more of his traits consciously and subconsciously exhibited in me. I have spoken with my father one time in the past 8 1/2 years. Divorced parents are always a messy situation for the kids, and our family was no exception. My younger brother and I had our ups and downs with both parents, fortunately mostly ups. The time came when my father decided that he wanted us to live with him. He was very convincing... but never convincing enough to gain a commitment from us. Unfortunately, he refused to let it alone at that. I was, at the time, a sophomore in high school, my brother in 8th grade. Eventually, we cracked. Agreed to move in with him. All was right in his world. Except one thing. We could not bring ourselves to tell my mom. Eventually, though, it happened. A long, late-night discussion ensued with my mom, discussing the motivations for our decision, his request, and our feelings on the entire matter. That discussion was the difference. As alike as my father and I are, he never gave us that choice. Despite the enormous emotional stress this sudden announcement must have put on mom, she never once tried to coerce us to stay for one reason or another... and in the end that is why she won. The shoe on the other foot again, we were horribly hesitant to approach our father on the issue. One day it just happened. "We're not going to move in with you." I remember nearly everything about that evening. It was Thanksgiving weekend. My father told us to gather anything we wanted from his apartment. He berated us nearly the entire drive from his place to mom's house. "You'll fit in well in the business world... completely cold-hearted." He pulled up and we stepped out of the car. For seven years, the last words I heard my father speak were "Have a nice life" as he pulled away. Over the past four years, my brother and I have made attempts to contact him or meet with him, always with the same utter avoidance in response.

How Effective Is Edgar Allan Poeââ¬â¢s The Tell Tale Heart as a Gothic Horror Essay
ââ¬ËHow effective is Edgar Allan Poeââ¬â¢s ââ¬ËThe Tell Taleââ¬â¢ Heartââ¬â¢ as a gothic horror? ââ¬â¢ The short story ââ¬ËThe Tell Tale Heartââ¬â¢ was written by Edgar Allan Poe in 1843. It is written in first person in the past tense. The story opens in the middle of what seems to be a dialogue between the narrator and his audience. We learn that the narrator looks after an old man with a pale blue eye; he describes it as being like that of a ââ¬Ëvultureââ¬â¢. We are told that the eye disturbs the narrator, for this reason the narrator decides to take the old manââ¬â¢s life. During the seven days before the murder, the speaker is extremely kind to his victim in the day time. However, in the night he would creep into the old manââ¬â¢s room awaiting the appearance of the ââ¬ËEvilââ¬â¢ eye. On the eighth night the old man wakes up, the eye causes the narrator to suddenly lash out and kill the old man. He ââ¬Ëdismembersââ¬â¢ the corpse and stores it under the floor boards. The police visit his house due to a shriek heard by a neighbour. At first he is calm and sure of himself, but becomes increasingly nervous and seems to go insane. The narrator admits his crime to the police even though they have no apparent suspicions. The dark and mysterious setting of Poeââ¬â¢s story is typical of a gothic horror. We learn from early on that the narrator is actually the villain. He speaks directly to the reader, creating a personal bond which we do not share with any other character. We know very little about the victim which prevents us from empathising with him later on in the story. The narrator is a very complex character, he seems to have a distorted view of the world around him and we assume him to be mad. Madness is a popular theme of gothic horror and one of the reasons the story is so effective is because of the erratic way in which it is told. Some events of the tale seem to be unrealistic and this adds mystery to the horror. The main event of the tale, the murder, is also common in the gothic horror genre. Because of these links to a general tale of gothic horror, I believe Edgar Allan Poeââ¬â¢s ââ¬ËThe Tell Tale Heartââ¬â¢ is very effective. Within the first paragraph I get the impression that the speaker is mad and disturbed. He accuses the audience of thinking he is mad by saying ââ¬Ëwhy will you say that I am mad? This causes us to question his sanity because he has no reason to say this. Now that the theme of madness is fresh in our heads, as we continue to read the story the idea that the narrator is ââ¬Ëmadââ¬â¢ comes to mind easily. I get the impression that he is insecure and possibly knows he is insane because heââ¬â¢s trying to persuade us otherwise. The narrator speaks at a very fast pace using disjointed sentences such as, ââ¬ËTrue! -nervous-very, very dreadfully nervous! ââ¬â¢ The vast amount of punctuation makes this sentence choppy and slow to read causing you to trip over what he is saying. This manner of dialogue reflects his frantic personality. Also, the narrators distorted view of things reinforces the horror genre. We assume that he has a distorted view because he expresses his ââ¬Ëloveââ¬â¢ for the old man yet soon explains his wishes to take his life. There is a paradox in this situation and shows us how scrambled his thoughts are. The idea of the narrator not thinking straight and being irrational excites the audience. It also adds to the effectiveness of the gothic horror. When I first read ââ¬ËThe Tell Tale Heartââ¬â¢ I felt eager to find out the narratorââ¬â¢s later actions. This backs up my earlier idea of both the story and narrator being extremely effective as a gothic horror. When the speaker tells us he is going to ââ¬Ëtake the old manââ¬â¢s lifeââ¬â¢ our opinion of him changes. We begin to realise that he could be evil and cold hearted. He makes it clear that the old man has ââ¬Ënever wrongedââ¬â¢ him, this is strange because this would make the only reason for murder the manââ¬â¢s ââ¬Ëdiseasedââ¬â¢ eye. This seems extremely unnecessary and cruel; this behaviour has a great link with gothic horror. Also, it is frightening to think that such a defect could motivate a murder. Suspense is built when the narrator rehearses the actions that lead up to the murder for seven nights. This suggests that he is incredibly meticulous. He is a perfectionist and is repeating his intended actions to ensure all runs smoothly. We could also get the impression that he is fearful of killing the old man. I think that he uses the fact that the eye isnââ¬â¢t open as an excuse not to kill the old man, he says ââ¬Ëbut I found the eye always to be closed; and so it was impossible to do the workââ¬â¢. This in fact, is a lie. It would have been much simpler to murder the old man whilst he was sleeping. When the narrator creeps into his room at night he is very slow and quiet. This ensures that he doesnââ¬â¢t see the eye and therefore doesnââ¬â¢t get enraged. This situation is extremely disturbing, it seems warped that the narrator would have such ruthless ideas but then be unable to follow them through. The speaker proudly tells us that in the day he treats the old man with courtesy and respect. In a way, this tells me that he is not a completely evil character; merely controlled by his impulses. On the other hand it could be perceived as the narrator being a good actor and sly. By being devious and two faced about the situation our opinion of the character changes. This is creepy because he is unpredictable; we are never quite sure when things are going to happen. On the eighth night, the narrator was more than usually cautious when entering the old manââ¬â¢s room. This immediately raises our suspicions and we begin to question why he has done this. It suggests that for some reason the narrator was apprehensive on that particular night. In the end, his over-cautiousness was his downfall because he accidently wakes the old man. This is disturbing because now the man is awake we assume that the murder will now take place. In the immediate build up to the murder the narrator describes in great depth what the old man is thinking. This implies to me that the speaker has experienced similar situations and can associate with the old man. It also could suggest that the narratorââ¬â¢s senses have been sharpened, as he tells us in the first paragraph: ââ¬Ëthe disease had sharpened my sensesââ¬â¢. It gives us the idea that the narrator can tell what the old man is thinking. Hints of mind reading enhance the effect of this gothic horror because they are supernatural. Even though the old man wakes up, the darkness in the building gives the narrator confidence and adds to the effectiveness of the gothic horror. Darkness is often directly linked with evil and also the idea that anything can happen definitely adds to the tension and horror. Also, the possibility that if the old man hadnââ¬â¢t woken up, the cycle of the narrator watching the man sleep could have carried on forever is extremely creepy. The fact that we feel for the murderer more than the victim in this story is very strange. We would expect to pity the old man because we are told he is kind and has never ââ¬Ëwrongedââ¬â¢ the narrator. The fact he has a strange eye cannot be helped and is through no fault of his own. Although the reader is obviously shocked by what happens to the old man, there is no personal relationship between him and the reader because we know very little about him. I think that Edgar Allen Poe has done this on purpose so that we are more attached to the murderer, which is what makes this story particularly unusual. Moments before the narrator kills the old man, he claims to hear his heart beating. It is impossible to ââ¬Ëhearââ¬â¢ someone elseââ¬â¢s heart beat with human hearing so this is an extremely weird claim. A possible explanation for this is that the narrator is hearing his own heart due to nervousness. At the start of the story the narrator says that his hearing is extremely acute due to the ââ¬Ëdiseaseââ¬â¢. The fact that he uses the word ââ¬Ëdiseaseââ¬â¢ suggests that this extra hearing is a burden to him. This is true because he probably doesnââ¬â¢t want to hear the old manââ¬â¢s heartbeat. The motif of the heart beat is key to the story because, as shown by the title, it eventually is the undoing of the murderer. The imagery is also very scary and builds a great tension because we imagine the drumming of the heart in our heads. Eventually the speaker is driven to action by fear and kills the old man. This brutal murder is key to the story being classed as a gothic horror. We realise that he cares if anyone finds out about his deed and begin to understand that he is not genuinely insane; otherwise he wouldnââ¬â¢t have a perspective of people finding out and being prosecuted. His mind is hard to analyse because he is clever and obviously knows what he is doing. In a way this is more horrific that him being insane because it shows deep evil. Even though we can tell that the murderer is intelligent, the way he kills the old man is extremely clumsy. Suffocating him with a ââ¬Ëheavyââ¬â¢ bed? Surely there are many less awkward, quieter ways in which he could have killed him? The idea that even an everyday item such as a bed can be used a murder weapon is extremely creepy. His method suggests that even though he is meticulous, he didnââ¬â¢t think enough about actually killing the old man. The narratorââ¬â¢s immediate response to the murder was that of pleasure; this is disturbing. As soon as the deed was done he ââ¬Ësmiled gailyââ¬â¢. Also, the first thing he says is that ââ¬Ëhis eye would trouble me no moreââ¬â¢; itââ¬â¢s like he is relieved. Normally I would be surprised by this guilt free response but by now it is unsurprising. We are familiar with the narratorââ¬â¢s lack of feeling and conscience. It is questionable why the narrator ââ¬Ëdismembersââ¬â¢ the old manââ¬â¢s body. It is strange because as far as we know the narrator only has a problem with his eye. It could have been an act of precaution, even though this is unnecessary. Maybe the narrator saw it as a challenge? If this is true the idea of the narrator almost playing a game adds to the horror of the tale. We can tell that the narrator never saw the old man as a person, more of an object. Another possible reason could be that, because the narrator is so fastidious, he wanted everything to be neat and compact. This is very risky though because you would assume it would be a messy job. The narrator says there was no mess; could this once again be a distorted view of things? As the narrator goes about his gruesome task (dismembering the body) his tone of voice is very methodical and boastful. This suggests he is calm about the gory situation which is horrible. He does not elaborate the gore and we get the impression he is being very clean. We also get the impression that he is proud of his actions and the fact he has caught all the blood and prevented any possible mess. His tone has an effect on the reader; it dumbs down how disgusting his act is. He achieves this by not making a big deal of the details. The narratorââ¬â¢s initial response to the arrival of the policemen is fearless and vaguely smug. This creates an uneasy mood because we wonder if he will be found out. He ââ¬Ëbade(s) the gentlemen welcomeââ¬â¢ as if nothing is wrong. He is so confident he sits right above the spot where the old man is buried. This seems to be unnecessarily arrogant, which in the end is his own undoing. His attitude changes when the officers hang around for a long time; the narrator begins to feel they are mocking him. A lot of tension builds here because we can sense that something important is going to happen through the frantic situation. Tension is built up when the narrator begins to hear the heart beat again and believes the policemen can hear it too. This is physically impossible because the old man is definitely dead. Maybe itââ¬â¢s the murdererââ¬â¢s guilty conscience finally showing through! He starts pacing back and forth with ââ¬Ëheavy stridesââ¬â¢ but the heartbeat doesnââ¬â¢t stop. The tension continues to build as he raves and swears. He ââ¬Ëswung the chairââ¬â¢ and ââ¬Ëgrated it upon the boardsââ¬â¢. This is extremely horrific and it is even stranger that the policeman donââ¬â¢t seem to pay any attention. I think that his ravings may have been in his head but itââ¬â¢s hard to understand because of his distorted frantic view of everything. These hints of insanity constantly link back to the effectiveness of this gothic horror. I believe that this is a brilliant short story and I especially like the ending. It is unpredictable and exciting; not all of your questions are answered in the story and this makes your carry on thinking after youââ¬â¢ve finished reading. I wonder what happened to the murderer, and the heart beating still puzzles me. In conclusion, I believe that ââ¬ËThe Tell Tale Heartââ¬â¢ by Edgar Allen Poe is an excellent gothic horror. It contains many key features of a good horror, the biggest being the narrator/murderer who is the mean part of the story. Also, the main event, the murder, definitely is pivatel to the gothic horror genre.

Writing Styles (with Examples)
Writing Styles (with Examples) Writing Styles (with Examples) Writing Styles (with Examples) By Ali Hale Youââ¬â¢ve probably heard writers (or teachers, or critics) talk about ââ¬Å"styleâ⬠in writing. What exactly is style, though? It can be tough to pin down, because there are a variety of things we might be looking at when we talk about style. In most cases, though, style is about the individual word choices and the structure of sentences. While an author might have particular character-types that s/he tends to use, or a penchant for complicated plots, those things are usually considered on a different level from style. Two Examples of Style You can see style at work in even a short excerpt from a piece of writing. For instance, compare these two passages, which come from two websitesââ¬â¢ ââ¬Å"Aboutâ⬠pages: We started innocent in 1999 after selling our smoothies at a music festival. We put up a big sign asking people if they thought we should give up our jobs to make smoothies, and put a bin saying Yes and a bin saying No in front of the stall. Then we got people to vote with their empties. At the end of the weekend, the Yes bin was full, so we resigned from our jobs the next day and got cracking. (From ââ¬Å"usâ⬠, Innocent.) Established in 1981, Infosys is a NYSE listed global consulting and IT services company with more than 209,000 employees. From a capital of US$250, we have grown to become a US$11.12 billion (LTM Q1 FY19 revenues) company with a market capitalization of approximately US$ 42.4 billion. (From ââ¬Å"About Usâ⬠, Infosys.) Both of these excerpts tell us about the respective companiesââ¬â¢ beginnings. But they not only focus on different things (and as weââ¬â¢ll see in a minute, you canââ¬â¢t completely divorce content from style), theyââ¬â¢re written in very different language. Formal vs Informal Style Even if we look at the first four words of each piece, we can see the difference in style: ââ¬Å"We started innocent inâ⬠ââ¬Å"Established in 1981, Infosysâ⬠We can tell that one of these passages will use a much more formal style than the other: ââ¬Å"Startedâ⬠is a simpler word than ââ¬Å"establishedâ⬠; ââ¬Å"innocentâ⬠doesnââ¬â¢t capitalise their name (a hallmark of very informal style); the innocent piece is in the first person (ââ¬Å"weâ⬠) whereas the Infosys piece is in the third person (ââ¬Å"Infosysâ⬠). Throughout the excerpts, the content is also quite different: innocent give us a story about how their company began, whereas Infosys focus on facts and figures. Tip: If you need to make your writing more informal, use shorter sentences, simpler words, and write as if youââ¬â¢re talking directly to the reader. To make your writing more formal, use more precise, complex words, as if youââ¬â¢re writing a company report. Formal vs informal is one way of looking at style ââ¬â but there are plenty of other ways in which you might describe the style of a piece of writing. Concise vs Detailed Some writing is to-the-point: it gives information succinctly, and moves on. Other pieces are much more verbose ââ¬â they tell a story, paint a scene, take their time. Neither style is ââ¬Å"betterâ⬠ââ¬â they serve different purposes. A news report about a local incident ââ¬â say, a lost child who was found unharmed ââ¬â would be much shorter than a novel that deals with similar subject matter. Or compare a tweet on a particular topic with a blog post on the same topic: the tweet is much shorter than the blog post, but both might well be valuable in different ways. Tip: To be more concise, cut out extra details and unnecessary words. To expand a short piece, look for ways to give (relevant or interesting) detail, or offer a more nuanced perspective by looking at different angles on the topic. Commercial vs Literary In fiction, one major stylistic divide is between ââ¬Å"literaryâ⬠novels and ââ¬Å"commercialâ⬠novels. As with formal vs informal, we could see this as a spectrum ââ¬â with the most literary novels at one end, and the most commercial at the other end. Literary fiction places much more importance on writing style than commercial fiction, where the point of ââ¬Å"styleâ⬠is usually to get the story across as smoothly as possible. The content can also be quite different: literary fiction tends to be less plot-driven and more focused on character, for instance. Commercial fiction tends to sell much better, though some literary authors like Margaret Atwood and Ian McEwan sell a lot of books, too. Tip: As Harvey Chapman from Novel Writing Help puts it, ââ¬Å"Literary novels generally sell in smaller quantities than genre or mainstream novels. This means publishers are less likely to take a gamble on them, but you shouldnââ¬â¢t let that put you off writing them. Always write the type of book that you want to write.â⬠Factual vs Opinionated Another way to look at style is to think about the type of statements being made. Are they facts, or opinions? (Generally, a writer focused on facts will be more dispassionate and one focused on opinions will be more impassioned in their language ââ¬â though there are exceptions.) News articles, for instance, tend to focus on facts ââ¬â they may well be biased, of course, and the underlying political or social leanings of a publication can show through in the facts they choose to include or omit. Columnists in newspapers, however, are free to be much more opinionated ââ¬â even, in some cases, potentially offensive. They can share their thoughts and ideas with little or no recourse to actual facts. Tip: As a writer and a reader, itââ¬â¢s important to be able to distinguish between facts and opinions. Facts are objective and can be proved (e.g. ââ¬Å"water is denser than airâ⬠); opinions are subjective and two people might have two opposing opinions (e.g. ââ¬Å"swimming is horribleâ⬠vs ââ¬Å"swimming is wonderfulâ⬠). If youââ¬â¢re trying to convince your reader of something ââ¬â perhaps through a blog post or an article ââ¬â then itââ¬â¢s fine to give strong opinions, but you should also aim to back up what youââ¬â¢re saying with specific facts. As a writer, you already have a natural writing style ââ¬â though you may decide you want to develop or modify it. You might want to think about: How formal or informal do you want your writing to be? This might vary in different contexts ââ¬â for instance, if youââ¬â¢re a freelancer, you might write for some publications that want a very chatty, laid-back style, and others that want a business-like style. Do you tend to be a concise or verbose writer? Perhaps you find that you naturally get your points across quickly and briefly ââ¬â or maybe you like to dig deep into a topic and give lots of details. This could affect the type of writing you want to do (e.g. short stories vs novels, or blog posts vs books). If you write fiction, are you aiming at the commercial or literary end of the market? Donââ¬â¢t feel that you ââ¬Å"shouldâ⬠do one or the other ââ¬â focus on what appeals to you as a writer. If youââ¬â¢re unsure, you might want to try writing short stories in a variety of styles. Are there particular hallmarks of your style that youââ¬â¢ve already noted? For instance, perhaps you tend to use quite colourful language, or you love complex sentence structures. You might also want to look closely at the style of authors you enjoy: how exactly do they use words, phrases and sentences to create particular effects? Your writing style might take years to develop and a lifetime to perfect, though ââ¬â so donââ¬â¢t put off writing until youââ¬â¢ve ââ¬Å"foundâ⬠your style. Keep working on different pieces and projects: in a yearââ¬â¢s time, you might be able to look back and see that your style was developing all along. Personal Narrative Essay
Personal Narrative Essay Free Online Research Papers Higher and higher we rose up this seemingly endless track of the ââ¬Å"SheiKraâ⬠with the car making a squeaking and clanking noise as we ascend up the glaring red track, until we reached the top of the steel giant. With the sun shining in my eyes, I didnââ¬â¢t know how high we were until the coaster reached the top of the peak and I saw everything in a ten mile perimeter. My jaw dropped to see how high we were. The car made a slow eerie right turn and approached the first drop of the roller coaster. The drop is a heart-pounding dive that takes you ninety degrees straight down two hundred feet on red steel track. It is a fall of death for some but a thrill of a life time that formed a special memory for my brother, sister and me. Inching closer and closer to the drop, I began to regret my decision of getting on this ride. Seeing my sisterââ¬â¢s eyes widen as the red and yellow car met the tip of the fall, I felt the ride suspending us hanging on the end of the drop for a few seconds to add thrill. My heart rate increased and then in a blink of an eye we went soaring down the track. The screams of the people on the ride made my ears ring as we dove farther down the red track. Air was blowing my hair back and drying my eyes as if someone was holding a hair dryer to them. Then the roller coaster made a hurling upside-down loop into a swift sharp left turn causing my stomach to churn and making my head spin. As the coaster started to straighten out and slow down, my stomach settled down and I thought the ride was coming to an end but it was far from it. There was another straight ninety degree drop leading into a dark cave. With the air once again slamming against my face with my head shaking like a raddle th at nauseous feeling in my stomach reappeared inside me. Pulling up from the steep drop, the coaster emerged from the darkness of the cave and swerved into a sharp right turn, skimming across a pool of water. Sprinkles of the cool water splashed against my face. Rising out of the pool of water, the coaster made a smooth right turn and before we knew it we were back at the starting platform. Getting off the roller coaster, my legs trembled from the breath taking ride. My sisterââ¬â¢s hair was wild and frizzy from the ride and the color on my brotherââ¬â¢s face looked like he just saw a ghost as he exited the coaster. Since the line was not that long, I begged my brother and sister to ride the roller coaster with once more. After several minutes of pleading with them, they agreed to join me on the ââ¬Å"SheiKraâ⬠once more. My family and I have been going to Florida for as long as I can remember. We have a condo on Treasure Island right on the Gulf of Mexico. Since my dad works at Anheuser Busch we receive free tickets to their theme park, Busch Gardens. Busch Gardens is our familyââ¬â¢s favorite theme park. It is filled with a variety of different rides, food, and entertainment that come together to make a day with our family worth remembering. My brother, sister and I usually donââ¬â¢t get along too good with each other, most likely because we are all the complete opposite of each other and are very busy with activities the we donââ¬â¢t often bond together to create memories, but riding the ââ¬Å"SheiKraâ⬠during our vacation to Florida with them has created a very special one. We had the time of our lives on the ride and will share the memory created on it with each other forever. There were no special accessories used during these test and there is no EUT modification or test standard deviation. Prior to taking the formal emissions data collected in this report many hours of pre-testing have been performed. The selection of the worst case system documented in this report was based upon this pre-testing. The portable laptop system (EUT) was set up as per the test configuration to simulate typical usage per the user's manual. When the EUT is a tabletop system, a wooden table with a height of 0.8 metres is used and is placed on the ground plane as per EN 55022. Associated equipment, if needed, was placed as per EN 55022. ... 4.2 Radiated Emissions 5. Electromagnetic Emissions Test 5.1 Line Conducted Emissions Test - Measurement Procedures Utilized for Conducted Emissions The portable laptop system (EUT) was set up as per the test configuration to simulate typical usage per the user's manual. When the EUT is a tabletop system, a wooden table with a height of 0.8 metres is used and is placed on the ground plane as per EN 55022. Associated equipment, if needed, was placed as per EN 55022. All I/O cables were positioned to simulate typical actual usage as per EN 55022. The test equipment EUT installed received AC power through a Line Impedance Stabilization Network (LISN), which supplied power source and was grounded to the ground plane. All associated equipment received power from a second LISN. For conducted emission test on telecommunication ports, a telecommunication port is connected by its signal cable to an impedance stabilization network (ISN). During the testing, the LAN utilization is in excess of 10 % and sustain that level for a minimum of 250 ms. The traffic rate is monitored by the program of NetSpeed. The EUT test program was started. Emissions were measured on each current carrying line of the EUT using an EMI Test Receiver connected to the LISN powering the EUT. The Receiver scanned from 150K Hz to 30MHz for emissions in each of the test modes. During the above scans under battery charging mode, the emissions were maximized by cable manipulation. The EUT configuration and cable configuration of the above highest emission level were recorded for reference of the final test. - Conducted Emissions Test Data The following data was collected with a spectrum analyzer in peak detection mode, unless otherwise noted. Temperature 17C; Rel. Humidity

Compose a narritive - Essay Example Conflict is inevitable at work because individuals have diverse views on the operations of an organization. Some individuals may support the decisions made by employers while others tend to disagree. An effective leader has the capacity to recognize the existence of a conflict and comprehends its nature. I was frustrated with the boss because he did not respond to some issues regarding the tracking system. This system requires adequate maintenance every month to ensure that operations run smoothly and efficiently. Only high skilled personnel can operate this system and they end up charging huge amounts of money. Some preceding months ago, my employer complained of the high maintenance costs and insisted that he would withdraw the system. This angered me because that action would mean that I would now perform the daily tasks manually. I have been complaining regarding the effectiveness of the system since its implementation telling him that it requires monthly maintenance, but my empl oyer kept on dismissing my utterances because he did not like spending huge amounts of money on maintenance. My employer never understands that expenses are inevitable in any organization. My employerââ¬â¢s reluctance was the prime reason that propelled the emergence of a conflict between us. Additionally, it was a conflict based on disparity in priorities. He is inattentive to subordinatesââ¬â¢ concerns and hates listening to information about any weakness within the organization. Even though I demand a lot, I am very loyal and dedicated to my job, but my employer tends to frustrate me when he ignores the fact that the system requires monthly maintenance. I would return home annoyed because of daily arguments with my employer but would report the following day assuming nothing had happened at work. It never dawned on me that I needed to settle the issue with my employer though this conflict affected my performance at work. I would avoid interacting with him, and each time I n eeded some assistance on how to undertake some complex tasks, I would consult my fellow employees. They did not hesitate to assist me because they were aware that I did not like associating with him after he started undermining my concerns. Additionally, I noted that my refusal to deal with the conflict affected my association with my family members. At times, I could transfer my temper to my young innocent siblings and nearly beat them up for no apparent reason. I hated myself for behaving awkwardly towards my family though I knew that the problem was because of my ineffective relationship with my employer. Moreover, I realized that this conflict interfered with my ambitions because I lacked the motivation to pursue my goals. I became resentful of my job and felt that it did not match my capabilities. It was now clear from my family and fellow employees that they wanted me to alter my attitude. My fellow subordinates advised me daily that I needed to end my conflict with the boss t o avoid facing dire consequences. Deep down, I knew that the conflict emerged because of ineffective leadership of my employer. A leader needs to set a good example by articulating his accomplishments, behaving ethically, and supporting subordinates. According to (Picard 22), a leader should facilitate conflict resolutions because conflicts can distract subordinates and this may impede with the organizationââ¬â¢
